Support for you and your family

ATL Behavioral has extensive experience assessing and treating veterans’ mental health concerns and maintains connections with veteran support organizations. We offer assessments and counseling at our Atlanta and Canton offices for veterans, active-duty service members, National Guard and Reserve members, and military-connected partners and families.

You may be adjusting after service, dealing with anxiety or low mood, or working through changes at home. Your concerns may relate to military service, everyday life, or both. We start with what is affecting you and what you want help with. You don’t need combat experience or a PTSD diagnosis to get started.

What we can work on together

Assessment and counseling start with what is affecting your life now. We can help you explore concerns such as:

  • Anxiety, ongoing worry, irritability, or difficulty managing stress
  • Depression, low motivation, or feeling withdrawn from people and activities
  • Changes in identity, purpose, work, or daily routines during the transition to civilian life
  • Relationship strain, communication difficulties, family changes, grief, and loss
  • Trauma and PTSD concerns, including distressing memories or feeling constantly on guard

You don’t have to know exactly what to call the problem. We can start with what you’ve noticed and how it is affecting you.

Veteran mental health assessments

A mental health assessment helps clarify what you’re experiencing and what care may help. We discuss your current concerns, relevant personal and service history, and how symptoms affect sleep, work, relationships, and daily responsibilities. The findings help guide your care plan.

If you need written documentation, tell our office what it is for before booking so we can confirm whether we offer the appropriate assessment and which clinician to see.

Meet members of our care team

Our team includes clinicians who provide therapy and mental health assessments. Hassanat Oshodi, Kelly Smith, and Alixandra Green are among the team members you can learn about below. Contact our office for help choosing the right service and clinician.

Nexus letters within the therapy process

When clinically warranted, assistance with nexus letters may be considered as part of the therapy process. Your clinician can discuss whether a letter is appropriate based on your history and clinical assessment. Any letter reflects the clinician’s findings and does not guarantee a benefits decision.

What to expect when you reach out

Here’s what to expect when you contact us.

  1. Contact our office. Tell us whether you’re seeking an assessment, therapy, or help choosing where to start, along with your preferred location and insurance. Our team can discuss appointment options and next steps.
  2. Talk about what brings you in. Your first visit gives you and your clinician time to discuss current concerns, relevant history, and what you hope will be different. You can ask questions about the process and privacy.
  3. Set goals together. Your care can focus on coping with stress, improving communication, understanding emotional patterns, or working through difficult experiences. The approach depends on your needs and clinical assessment.

If trauma is part of your concerns, your clinician can discuss appropriate treatment options. These may include EMDR when clinically appropriate and available with a qualified provider. You can also discuss your comfort with different approaches and how to pace the work.

Common questions

Do I need a PTSD diagnosis to get started?

No. You can reach out for stress, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, grief, or a difficult transition. Your initial conversation can help clarify what kind of support fits.

Can my spouse or family get support too?

Yes. Military-connected partners and families are welcome. Contact us to discuss who needs support and whether individual, couples, or family services may be appropriate.

Can I ask about confidentiality before sharing my history?

Yes. Ask your clinician about confidentiality, its legal limits, and how insurance billing or military-related requirements may apply to your circumstances. You can raise these questions at the start of care.

What if I am unsure which person to book with?

Call our office. We can discuss the concern you want help with, your preferred location, and your insurance so you can understand your appointment options.
