Stability, Support, and Healing for Children in Transition

ATL Behavioral recognizes that children and adolescents in foster care often carry deep emotional wounds from experiences of abuse, neglect, or separation. The foster care journey, while intended to provide safety, can also bring instability, grief, identity confusion, and feelings of abandonment. Our foster youth mental health services are designed to help children in care process their past, navigate their present, and build emotional resilience for a healthier future.

With over 15 years of experience working within Georgia’s mental health and child protection systems, our foster care therapists understand the complex needs of foster youth. We offer trauma-informed, inclusive care tailored to each child’s age, background, and developmental stage.

Who Do We Help?

We provide foster care mental health support for:

  • Children and teens are currently in foster care.
  • Youth transitioning between placements.
  • Children preparing for reunification or adoption.
  • Youth experiencing grief, behavioural challenges, or trauma in foster care
  • Siblings separated or adjusting to new family systems.

Foster care and trauma are often correlated. Our work also extends to supporting foster parents, caregivers, and caseworkers with tools and strategies to build healthy, trusting relationships that nurture healing and growth.

Our Therapeutic Approach

Children in foster care often struggle with attachment, trust, and identity. Our goal is to provide a consistent, compassionate therapeutic relationship that helps them feel safe and understood. Depending on the child’s needs, we integrate several evidence-based approaches:

  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Foster Youth (TF-CBT): It helps children manage trauma-related symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and behavioural outbursts.

  • Attachment-Based Foster Care Therapy: Supports the development of secure emotional bonds and helps foster children adjust to new family dynamics.

  • Expressive Therapies: For younger children, these modalities offer a safe outlet for emotions and provide insight into their inner world.

  • Life Story Work: Encourages children to explore and understand their personal history, which fosters a stronger sense of identity and self-worth.

Each child’s journey is unique. We adapt our methods to meet them where they are, ensuring they feel seen, valued, and safe throughout the therapeutic process.

Helping Foster Youth Thrive!

Children in foster care deserve more than just safety. They deserve the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive. At ATL Behavioral, we are dedicated to walking alongside them on that path, with compassion, clinical excellence, and a deep respect for their resilience.
